It’s always great to hear a story of survival

Survival stories are fascinating to watch. They show just how resilient human beings can be when they are focusing on just one thing – their own survival.

In fact Hollywood has cottoned on to how much we love to hear a survival story by producing movies on the topic. A lot of these films are based on true accounts of humans getting forced into some of the worst situations. But instead of giving up, they ignore the odds which are stacked against them and come out alive (in fact that was the name of one of those movies, ‘Alive‘!)

Not all stories end happily

Unfortunately, for every story of survival, there is often a story of tragedy where people have not managed to beat the odds, and as a result have not lived to tell the tale. Sometimes these people have heroically saved another person’s life and in turn given up there own.

Sadly however there are also times when no one needed to die. It was simply a matter of being unprepared.

Preparedness

Whether it’s at home, in the car, on the water, a bush walk or on your next snow expedition, you should always be prepared with the bare essentials. Yet for so many people, being prepared is something ‘they’ll get around to eventually’. The truth is however, disaster doesn’t wait for anybody – if you want to come away with a motivating survival story you’ll need to be prepared at all times.

Do you have a story of survival? Please let us know by adding it to the comments below. We’d love to hear your account!

Most people will acknowledge the fact that we should all be prepared and have a survival kit in our homes should a disaster such as a hurricane, earthquake or tornado should rip through our community and destroy the places we live.

But how many people actually have a survival kit?

I don’t know about you, but most people think of survival kits as one of those things they should have but just haven’t got round to making sure they do have one. The government sponsored website Get Thru is very helpful in explaining the various things that New Zealanders should have stored in a single easily accessible place in their homes.

It’s time to do something about it, before it’s too late!

Here at Get Kit, we want to ensure that you actually get around to doing what is neccessary in putting that all well meaning thought into action. Check out our range of emergency survival kits so that you can rest assured that you and your family are prepared for the next earthquake, landslide, storm, flood, tsunami or volcanic eruption that might hit our country.

Because folks, it’s better to be safe than sorry!
